Commercial use of drones
In many industries, drones are an important tool.
Many Commercial Sectors Utilize Drones
In many industries, drones are a vital tool. Real estate agents, the construction industry, farmers, energy companies, and rescue teams are some of the sectors that need to gather data from the air.
The technological development in drone systems, cameras, and sensors is advancing rapidly, allowing drones to be equipped with increasingly sophisticated optics and measuring equipment. In some instances, drones replace the use of manned aircraft. The postal service has begun testing delivery services with drones.
Aviation is also facing significant changes related to unmanned aerial vehicles – eVTOL.
Norwegian drone operators generally have good access to airspace where the drone is operated within visual line of sight and below 120 meters above ground. In the open category, there are courses and exams available on the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority's drone portal, flydrone.no. Anyone flying a drone with a camera and/or weighing more than 250 grams is required to register with the Civil Aviation Authority.
From 2024, there will also be requirements for remote identification of several types of drones.
